As part of our oceanography unit, we dissected sharks. Lauren has been talking about how much she loves ocean animals and her desire to be a dolphin trainer. I thought she would find this very interesting, however, it was Sarah who was my amazing dissector! She loved it and was the last one still going after everyone else had quit. She would cut away asking what everything was. We had a great time seeing the huge liver, opening the intestines, and finding the heart and brain. The several rows of teeth were also neat to see. If the truth be told I have come a long way since my high school biology days!

MADISON'S BIRTHDAY
We were able to spend Madison’s birthday in Utah. The fun started on Wednesday night with ice-skating with all of the cousins. Everyone had a great time, until someone ran Mark over and messed up his knee. He has been limping around ever since. The kids had fun and Jared thought he was getting better with every lap around the rink. Then on Thursday, which was Madison’s actual birthday, we had lunch at the Train Burger in Heber. After that we all went down to Park City to have Madison’s ears pierced! It was a big step, but she did great. It was then time for her and Nana to do a little one on one shopping. Madison had been looking forward to that for months. When she returned to the house she was full of packages, and had picked up Zac and Kate to sleep over. For dinner we had pizza and, of course, some birthday cake. After she opened all of her presents, we were privileged with a fashion show of all her new things. As if two days of celebration was not enough, on Friday all the cousins got to go skiing together. It was a great and festive trip.

IS SHE GIVING ME THE EVIL EYE?

NO! Madison was playing Mermaids. So she had Lauren tie up her legs like she had a fin. However, fins are not very conducive to walking. She lost her balance and her head came down on the corner of Lauren’s desk. They started screaming for me to come upstairs. When I got up there she was laying on the floor with blood rushing down her face. We went to the hospital where she got internal stitches and about 9 additional stitches. It took us four hours in the hospital, but she ended up with a great “evil eye”.
